          Houses To Watch Live Sports

The atmosphere, the last-minute goals, the underdog winning… there’s something special about watching live sport, and it’s always better with your favourite people around you.

The problem with watching live sport at a pub is that it can be a bit chaotic. It’s loud, packed crowds, over-rowdy people, no guarantee of a seat, poor views of the TV, bar queues, and prices of drinks that seem to have skyrocketed when there’s a big match on. By the time you’ve bought a few rounds, it adds up really quickly. Of course, I get why people love it, it’s part of the experience; but there’s an even better way to upgrade watching live sports!

Hiring a big house for a sport-watching weekend… now that’s where things change. These large group houses for watching live sport give you the space, comfort and freedom to enjoy it your way. It’s a great setup for everything from the Six Nations and the World Cup to the Euros, Champions League, Ashes and even F1 weekends, especially if you’re looking for big houses to hire for sport weekends in the UK.

8 of the best houses to hire for a sport-watching weekend

Houses To Watch Live Sports - The Grand Church Retreat

          1. The Grand Church Retreat – 20 guests – Lake District
The luxurious open-plan layout means everyone can settle in for match time without feeling cramped. Start off in the mini-bar and get your snacks and drinks ready before heading over to the viewing area with comfortable seating. After the match, you can break out into the different entertainment areas like playing pool, playing classic arcade games in the games room, head into the sunken hot tub with TV and watch a different sports game or for the real foodies out there, get the BBQ heated and grill up a feast.

Houses To Watch Live Sports - The Luxe Hall

          2. The Luxe Hall – 24 guests – Chester/North Wales
I love this house and it’s great for a weekend of watching live sports. Why? There’s pretty much a TV in every room including the bathroom! Watch the pre-game while having a bath, then continue watching it while you get changed in your room. Make your way into the large living room with mates or even use the cinema room to start the game, grab a drink in the bar or play pool in the mezzanine at halftime. After the game there’s a huge outdoor pool and barrel sauna to help you wind down after the adrenaline rush of your team winning!

Houses To Watch Live Sports - Newcastle Geordie House -

          3. Newcastle Geordie House – 18 guests – Newcastle
The huge living room has plently of seating for all, including a bar if you wanted to stay close to the drinks and snacks. You can also watch the game while playing a round of pool or darts in the games room. Dinner time, but there’s a lap to go or added time? No problem, the dining room can seat 18 and there is a TV in there too. It’s also a solid choice for groups who want a mix of sport and nightlife as it’s a short drive to Newcastle city centre.

Houses To Watch Live Sports - Morecambe Seascape Retreat

          4. The Morecambe Seascape Retreat – 20 guests – Near the Lake District
I like the cinema room with cinema style seating; imagine watching a live sports game in there! It’s a proper house for entertainment. After watching the game in the bright living room, make your way to the night club-style casino, which includes a bar, arcade games, pool table, foosball table, air hockey table (yes!) and casino tables. You have your own private hot tub with sea views to recap on the game or use the heated indoor pool and sauna (you’ll be allocated a time slot). Either way, you’ll have an epic time in this truly luxurious home!

Houses To Watch Live Sports - Somerset Self Catering Holiday Home

          5. Somerset Self Catering Holiday Home – 8-12 guests – Near Bath
This modern house has a huge TV perfect for watching live sports in the living room, but it’s the outdoor bar/kitchen where I’d be! The outdoor bar has a marble top with gas BBQ and TV so you can enjoy the beautiful weather and incredible country views, while watching the sport you love. Slow game? It’s okay, just hop into the large 6-person hot tub to have a soak!

Houses To Watch Live Sports - South Forest Cottage

          6. South Forest Cottage – 12-16 guests – Cardiff
This one makes you feel like you’re in a tropical resort! I love the back garden because there’s a huge covered dining area with a large TV and long dining table that can seat everyone. It has an outdoor kitchen perfectly made for those match days where you don’t want to go inside and miss out on the fun. Afterwards, get in one of the sun loungers and relax by the swimming pool. The views are incredible, it really does make you feel like you’re in a different country.

          Houses To Watch Live Sports

          7. Bristol Sun House – 12-18 guests – Bristol
The games room is the heart of this house in my opinion. Picture yourself watching the game while playing rounds of pool or table football. There’s a dart board as well and plenty of bar-seating so everyone can watch the game together. What I like most about the games room is the bi-folding doors, so it doesn’t feel too crowded and its a quick exit when someone is really fed up with the ref and needs space.

Houses To Watch Live Sports - The Green Burrow

          8. Green Burrow – 20-44 guests – Near Leeds
The Green Burrow used to be an old pub, so it’s obviously a great place to watch a live sports! There’s tonnes of space and TV’s, so if you wanted to watch two (or three, or four) games at once, you definitely can. There’s a proper bar with taps, a cinema room for the big match, a games room, gym and massive living area with a fireplace right in the middle. This house is perfect for a BIG game.

Tips for planning a sport-watching house hire

          • Booking early makes a big difference. These large group houses are in demand all year round for holidays, birthdays, stag and hen weekends, so the best ones go quickly around major sporting events.
          • Check the setup before you book. Look for a large TV or projector, Smart TV access for streaming, and strong wi-fi so you’re not dealing with buffering mid-match.
          • Plan your food in advance. BBQs are ideal for summer fixtures, while takeaway deliveries or a simple buffet spread work well for big game days. Keeping it easy means more time actually watching the sport.
          • Split the cost across the group. When you break it down per person, hiring a big house often works out better value than multiple nights out.
          • Look for added entertainment. Games rooms, outdoor space or extras like a private bar keep the weekend going beyond the match itself.

These are holiday homes, so treat them with respect. A good setup works best when everyone’s on the same page.
