The Piazzate Spa & Country Retreat is an exclusive-hire Georgian manor estate in the Devon countryside, offering four beautifully renovated cottages arranged around a private courtyard. With 9 luxurious en-suite bedrooms sleeping up to 20 guests, it’s an ideal setting for everything from corporate away days and milestone celebrations to laid-back weekends with friends, family reunions, and relaxed hen or stag escapes that want space, privacy and comfort.
Days here can be as active or as slow as you like, with an outdoor heated swimming pool, sauna, hot tub, and access to a private tennis court, plus woodland walks and a lake within the grounds. There’s also plenty of room to gather together. Whether that’s long courtyard lunches, evenings around the firepit barbecue in the woods, or in the house around the extended dining table.
Please make an enquiry and tell us the nature of your stay and what type of break you’d like to have at The Piazzate Spa & Country Retreat – we’ll put together a complete bespoke proposal for you.
Set within the grounds of a Georgian manor estate, The Piazzate Spa & Country Retreat brings together four stylish cottages for exclusive hire, giving groups the rare combination of privacy, flexibility and shared space. The estate sits in a peaceful pocket of rolling countryside with far-reaching views, close to wild landscapes and open moorland – perfect for guests who want to feel away from it all, without being cut off.
With 9 en-suite bedrooms in total, the estate sleeps up to 20 guests across four separate cottages, all arranged around a private courtyard piazza that becomes the natural social hub of the stay.
The Coach House is the largest of the four cottages and feels like the natural “main house” for the group. With generous living space, a cosy log burner and underfloor heating, it works brilliantly year-round and it also has its own enclosed garden with a private hot tub.
Tucked just off the Coach House garden, The Apartment is a flexible space that can be arranged to suit your group’s needs. It’s ideal for couples, grandparents, or anyone who’d appreciate a quieter corner of the estate while still being close to the heart of the action.
The Cottage has a bright, open feel with a striking double-height atrium and thoughtful design touches throughout. It’s also home to the estate’s main dining space, with a table that can be extended so the whole group can sit down together in one place.
The Studio is the most recent conversion and offers a modern, airy layout with a warm, relaxed feel. Bedrooms are set on the ground floor, while upstairs there’s an open-plan living area with a log burner and a glazed balcony overlooking the courtyard.
The cottages sit around a beautiful private courtyard piazza where the group naturally comes together. Tables can be arranged in different ways depending on your plans. We can set up for casual breakfast or long lunches and evening dinners under the sky.
There are also convenient facilities nearby, including additional toilets at the corner of the piazza, and ongoing improvements to support larger group stays even more smoothly.
The outdoor heated swimming pool is a real highlight, with Roman steps, ceramic tiling and a spacious terrace for lounging, reading, and relaxed poolside chats. The pool is usually heated between May and October, while the surrounding facilities can be enjoyed year-round.
Just nearby you’ll find a sauna, plus a covered glazed area that works beautifully as a sheltered chill-out space and can also be used for protected outdoor dining if needed. There’s plenty of seating, a dining table, and wide countryside views from the terrace, making it a great spot for slow breakfasts, long lunches, or a quieter evening drink after a busy day.
For guests who like to mix in something more active, you’ll also have access to a private tennis court, complete with an automatic ball-serving machine. And for the ultimate wind-down, there’s a hot tub available all year round at the Coach House.
There’s also a separate wellness treatment spa and panoramic lounge, located beside the swimming pool. This adults-only space features an 8-seater hydro pool and a relaxing lounge with countryside views. As this is separate to the house stay, it can be booked in advance for an additional cost, with time slots available for staying guests (up to 3 hours per session). Treatments and spa party packages can also be arranged on request.
We can also help arrange wellness and hosted extras at the estate. From a private yoga instructor in the courtyard or on the terrace, to mobile pamper teams and treatments brought directly to you. It’s a lovely option for hen weekends, wellness retreats, or corporate groups looking to add a more restorative element to their itinerary.
Beyond the courtyard and cottages, the estate opens out into private grounds with plenty to explore at your own pace. There are peaceful walkways through the woodland and around the lake, giving you space to stretch your legs, enjoy the views, or take a quiet moment away from the group.
The lake itself has been deepened and is suitable for swimming (at guests’ own risk), and it’s a lovely spot to spend an afternoon when you want something simple and outdoorsy. For evenings, there’s a firepit barbecue set in a clearing in the woods with fuel provided.
This is a countryside stay with real variety: wide views, woodland walks, moorland landscapes and scenic routes nearby for exploring. You’re well placed for market towns, traditional pubs, local producers, and days out that range from active adventures to gentle wandering, with plenty of beautiful scenery in every direction.
It’s a great base for groups who want a rural setting that still feels connected, with space to breathe and enough on-site facilities to keep everyone happy without needing to leave.
To secure your booking at The Ashbury Countryside Retreat, you will need to pay a small deposit. The remaining final balance will be due 8 weeks before your booking date.
Please note there is a mandatory security deposit due 1 week prior to your check-in.
What is a security deposit and how does it work?
A security deposit is a good behaviour bond that is ring-fenced in your account on the week that you check-in. The security deposit is to encourage guests to keep the property clean and tidy and leave it as it is found. It’s also to deter any damages or noise complaints.
Providing there are no damages or complaints, the funds ring-fenced in your account will be automatically released back to you 7-10 days after check-out. You will be sent further information regarding the security deposit post-booking.
Check-in: 4pm
Check-out: 10am
Please note that the times above are the standard check-in and out times. Your times may vary and will be confirmed post-booking.
If you’d like your stay to feel more like a hosted retreat, we can help make that happen. On-site, we can provide authentic East Asian cuisine, from a welcome meal to catered options and brunch arrangements. Whether you’re celebrating, hosting a business weekend, or simply giving the main cook a break, it’s an easy way to elevate the weekend.
We can also arrange additional private dining options and catering support depending on your plans.
Private transport is essential for getting to the estate. The nearest train station is approximately 15 minutes away, with regular train services to London Paddington via Exeter St. Davis.
Pets are allowed at the property with an additional fee to be paid in advance. Please ask for more details.
