So he’s popped the big question and you’re starting to plan the wedding. You’ll want some help and that’s where your maid of honour comes in. So how do you choose the person for this key role?

The girl you choose to be your maid of honour can directly impact the success of the wedding, but she’s particularly vital in the lead up to the day, if for nothing else than as someone to talk to in your maddest bridezilla moments as she won’t judge you (too harshly anyway) and will help to keep you sane!

Sometimes, your choice is obvious, whether it’s your only sister or your best friend since infant school. For other brides-to-be, the decision is much harder and you might be in a tricky situation where you don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.

If you’ve narrowed the list down to 2 or 3, then consider which one is best suited to the responsibilities that come with the title if all else fails and you can’t decide between your 2 best friends then have them both!

The maid of honour should be that special friend who is happy to visit every wedding dress shop in the area to help you find the perfect one! Who will spend hours of her time helping you with the invitations and favours that in your infinite wisdom you have decided to create and make yourself for all your guests! Who will be a calming influence on the day itself whilst you’re getting ready and will talk you through your wedding day jitters.

She needs to be super organised and reliable. You’re going to have enough to worry about so if you’ve asked your Maid of Honour to do something, you don’t want to be fretting about it. You need to trust her to just get on with it and know the outcome will be just what you want.
