Perfume and the Heart breakfast show

I’ve spent the last week or so elbow deep in Pear Chutney. I’ve been harvesting my pear trees, picking up windfall and making super chutney for the relatives. Great gift, shows you’ve cared, but as husband pointed, it’s a little bit, well, low rent. After a sulk and a walk (me), I returned home to the acrid smell of burnt pear and vinegar and reluctantly thought, through watering eyes – he’s got a point.

Luckily, however, I was able to prove to the man in my life that actually when it comes to presents I can do glitzy and unusual as well as lentil and string – thanks to the Perfume Making experience I sat in on at Heart Radio organised by Adventure Connections.

Breakfast show presenters Tom, Lindsey & Jack were creating their own customised scents to tie-in with an interview with the revolving-door girl group The Sugar Babes who have launched their own brand of celebrity perfume.

The presenters absolutely loved the Perfume Making experience and so did I. Like all the best ideas, Perfume Making is pretty simple. Basically, you sit with a trained perfume consultant and he/she takes you through a smell journey of 18 different perfume blends all of which have emotional/mood properties attached to them.

Like all good stories with a beginning, middle and end, it’s the same with perfume, in that you combine high, medium and low notes to create your particular aroma. You can combine any number of these to create a signature scent for yourself or for a loved one – male or female. It’s a curious and entertaining journey that is pretty beguiling.

Your chosen blends get mixed and voila! you are presented with your very own perfume in a stylish atomiser, that you can take away with you.

In true breakfast radio-style the presenters are to hold a competition to take the smells out into the streets of East Sussex and see who created the best scent.

We’ll let you know who won as it’s broadcast this week but just for the record, my money’s with Lindsey.

Anyhow, back to the Perfume Party. You can book these in your own home or a venue of your choice. They are prefect for Christmas, hen parties, birthdays, engagements, and you can do it as an Apprentice Style corporate team-building event. Perfect. Whatever the occasion, it’s an absolutely peach of a present, so what are you waiting for?
