So you think you can dance!

Well, I thought at best I had a small amount of rhythm and co-ordination, it turns out I don’t!

We went to a wedding reception with a difference last weekend.  The setting was stunning, a beautiful country house, the sun was shining down, and the bride and groom looked stunning.  The bride and groom have been taking dance lessons for some time and wanted to bring the enjoyment of their lessons into their evening reception – What better way to do it then to arrange a dance lesson on mass to conclude in a grand final dance off.  I wasn’t sure how this was going to work at first, but it couldn’t have gone any better.  It was a really fantastic way of getting everybody at the reception mixing and talking, because we didn’t get to dance with our other half’s!  We were sat at tables of 10 and all our tables were given a number, all the men from one table had to join all the girls from another table on the dance floor, who ever you ended up standing opposite from was your dance partner – That part was simple, it was what came next that I had the trouble with, the dance steps.  Each group was taught a different dance, the first group, the social foxtrot, the second, the merengue, the third, the rumba and the fourth, tango.

I was taught the rumba, or at least a simplified version, which in all honesty I was thankful for, because my husbands tango looked a lot more difficult. I’m disappointed to say my dance partner and I didn’t get very far – I’m still finding it difficult to believe the judges weren’t impressed by us.

The grand final was impressive to watch and the overall winners, who danced the rumba, were a joy.  The evening was a great success and enjoyed by all, including those who had to leave their dreams of ever being the next Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers back at the reception.

Join our blog, we would love to hear your stories of any wedding receptions with a difference you have been to.
