Does size matter?
When it comes to weddings, does size matter???????
Would you rather share one of the most special days of your life with every Tom, Dick and Harry you can think of? Or would you prefer to be surrounded in love and confetti by only your nearest and dearest?
Do you see your wedding as an opportunity to show all and sundry what a fantastic party you can throw? Or a beautiful opportunity to show the person you love above all others, just what they mean to you?
Of all the weddings I have been to, two of my favourite have been fairly small affairs.
My Sister and her Fiancé decided to go for a registrar office and a lovely intimate dinner in a beautiful private dining room in a wonderful local restaurant, with only immediate relatives from both sides present. I truly believe that because the bride and groom meant something to every person in the room the atmosphere was one of complete and utter enchantment. The stories told by the Best Man and Father of the Bride were shared memories for all present, not just stories told to raise a laugh or two from members of the wedding party who feel it polite to show some sort of response with a titter of amusement! My Sister and Brother in Law obviously wanted to include their friends and colleagues at some stage during their day, and managed to do this at their evening reception. The evening was brought to an end with some very uncoordinated dancing and old Aunt Ethel asleep on a chair in the corner, but without a doubt, a fantastic time was had by all.
The wedding of one of my closest friends from school, Clare and her Fiancé Neil, is a day that will stick in my memory forever. They decided to go for both the ceremony and reception at a beautiful hotel in Arundel,
West Sussex. The ceremony evoked every feeling in me that a wedding should, and much more. Watching my friend walk down the isle to meet the man of her dreams, who had their beautiful daughter and very handsome son standing along side him, wow – What a tear jerker!!!!! And how many people were at this wedding? Probably no more then fifty people, but again, the wedding meant something personal to every one of us there.
Clare and Neil concluded their very special day with an evening reception, everyone enjoyed dancing the night away to a very loud live band - What a great atmosphere that induced; even Granny couldn’t resist a boogie, and she was in her 80’s!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been to much larger weddings where I have felt like a stranger, even when the wedding has been that of a family member!!
So, the question is - What works for you? Big or Small????????????????
